Water heals. Every major religion uses the healing and cleansing power of water in some form. Specific waters in many regions of the world are known to have healing powers. ‘To take the waters….’ has been a common cure for centuries, if not across the millennium. Bath. The Dead Sea. The Ganges. Lourdes. Hot Springs. And countless other healing sources.
In our age of modern medicine and quick fix solutions, the healing power of water can be overlooked, or worse, dismissed as quackery, less effective than a good ‘ole (expensive) bout of pharmaceuticals or an invasive procedure. But some medical conditions have no quick fix. There is no magical pill or cutting-edge surgery that solves the problem. Frequently, water is the answer.
Trauma recovery patients, amputees, obesity, knee and back injuries, the elderly, autism, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophy, cystic fibrosis. Just a few of the people or conditions which benefit from water therapy. From a medical standpoint, the water supports the body, it reduces joint stress and provides both resistance and assistance to movement. From a holistic standpoint, I view water as a hug. It envelopes the body safely. It heals.
There are a number of portable or small pools on the market, but today I’m highlighting one in particular because of their commitment to our Veterans. They will work with the Veteran and their family to find sponsors for renting or purchasing The Vertical Pool so that the Veteran can heal and rehabilitate in the privacy of their own home at no cost to the Veteran.
Too often our soldiers return home to an over-burdened and under-funded Veteran’s Administration and to families that want to help but don’t know where to look, Or the soldiers are used to defending others, but are not comfortable asking for help for themselves. Our soldiers defend our country and our liberty, we owe them. Fortunately, Michelle Obama, the First Lady of the United States agrees and just announced proposed changes to policy to allow families to care for Veterans.
If you know someone who could benefit from water therapy, please check out The Vertical Pool. Even better if you have a returning soldier in your family or community, work with the people at The Vertical Pool to provide a healing pool. If you have benefitted from the water in some way, pay it forward, consider helping to fund, or organize funding, a pool for a Veteran.
Many of our soldiers have sacrificed some part of their body or health to defend our country, say thank you.
